Opposition to multi-ownership among Strasbourg supporters was on show at La Meinau, where anti-multi-ownership banners appeared during the derby against Metz. According to L'Équipe, the display coincided with Racing’s return to their home ground.
Messages were unfurled by the Fédération des supporters du Racing club de Strasbourg, les Ultra Boys and the KCB, warning that in a multi-club model Racing would never come first and stating a preference for a modest club standing tall over a “rich” club on its knees.
They were presented to the media on Saturday, then to stadium security before Sunday’s 15:00 kick-off. The club’s management, which has enforced checks since mid-September, accepted the banners as they did not name BlueCo, the club’s owner.
In recent weeks, representatives of the four associations affected by the measures have held several meetings. Small steps have followed, the “BlueCo Out” banner is no longer used and named ticketing for away matches has been scrapped. But talks on lifting all restrictions in return for ending public attacks on the project, and possibly the first 15 minutes’ cheering strike, did not succeed.
The board communicated this by email on Tuesday. During the match, as the banners were raised, messages on La Meinau’s giant screens called for unity, saying the club knows its roots and would be stronger together behind the team from the first to the last minute.
