What should Liverpool do with Will Wright?

The teenager played just five times for Liverpool’s youth teams before he picked up the knee injury that has put his development on hold.

As the youngster returns to fitness, consistent minutes will be crucial for him to get back on track and the Reds’ may want those minutes to come at a senior level in order to help Wright realise his massive potential.

Liverpool have loaned out some of their most promising talents over recent years, and for many it has resulted in a place in the first-team.

Jarell Quansah, Harvey Elliott and Conor Bradley are among those to have been loaned out and returned to find themselves in the first-team picture, and Liverpool could look to recreate that success with Wright.

With no exact date on his return from injury it is difficult to judge exactly when a deal could be done, but Liverpool loaned out Jayden Danns at a similar point last season without much luck.

Danns arrived at Sunderland in January already injured and didn’t play a single minute for the Black Cats. The Reds will be keen to avoid a repeat of that this winter.

If Wright isn’t going to be fully fit before the end of January then it may be best to let him find fitness with the U21s, but playing regular senior football would no doubt be better for his long-term development.

The recent news that Alexander Isak is looking at a prolonged period out due to a broken leg could also offer Wright the opportunity to gain some first-team experience with Liverpool, especially if the Reds progress in the FA Cup.
