Regis Le Bris claimed he had no regrets over allowing Wilson Isidor to take two penalties
Sunderland boss Regis Le Bris claimed he had no regrets about allowing Wilson Isidor to take two penalties in their 0-0 draw away to promotion rivals Burnley.
Those two misses saw the Black Cats miss the chance to go joint-top of the Championship alongside Leeds United, and although they'd perhaps have taken a point before kick-off, leaving Turf Moor with just one point would ultimately have been a bitter pill to swallow in the circumstances.
There was a cloud of contention hanging over the two penalties that Le Bris' side were awarded, with one foul certainly taking place outside the area, and some cynics would argue that justice was served in Isidor missing both.
It was rather unusual to see the same taker step forward for two penalties, especially given the pressure circumstances they fell in, but after the game Le Bris doubled down on the fact Isidor took both.
Typically, in situations where a team are awarded two penalties in the same game, the manager will have the final call over who takes the second one, but in this case, Isidor was allowed to step forward again.
Speaking to Sky Sports after the game, Le Bris said: "The players have to make a decision, and they didn't, so to me, it is not a problem.
"You are on the pitch and you decide 'I want to take this penalty' and can miss, and if someone wants to take the second one, he can.
"They decided that and it's not a problem for me.
"Football is like that and we can't have regret and we now have to move on to the next game."
The Black Cats' fans and players alike will understandably be disappointed in the circumstances.
Clearly, they should have secured a win over the Clarets with the two penalties they had.
That's not to say that a point at Turf Moor is a bad result, because no team in the Championship has gone there this season and come so close to winning.
That is something they should take heart from.
Le Bris' men are also still firmly in the automatic promotion hunt, and that's something the boss will be keen to reiterate to his side before they close out January with winnable games against Derby County and Plymouth Argyle.
