Kyril Louis-Dreyfus has overseen a striking revival at Sunderland since becoming majority shareholder in February 2021. The Black Cats claimed two promotions, including a Championship play-off final win at Wembley that ended a nine-year Premier League absence, and have secured European football for only the second time. Head coach Regis Le Bris then led them into the top flight before a standout summer window set up a campaign that finished with Europa League qualification.
He has been a constant presence home and away and is a popular figure on Wearside. According to Sunderland Echo, attention has turned to how his reported net worth compares with Premier League counterparts.
Newcastle United lead the way, backed by Saudi Arabia’s Public Investment Fund and RB Brothers, at £723.3bn. Manchester City’s City Football Group, including Sheikh Mansour and Silver Lake, are listed at £24.5bn, with Manchester United’s Glazers and Sir Jim Ratcliffe at £20.5bn.
Chelsea’s Clearlake Capital Group, Todd Boehly, Mark Walter and Hansjörg Wyss are put at £19bn, Arsenal’s Stan Kroenke at £16.1bn and Crystal Palace’s ownership at £13.7bn. Fulham are at £10.9bn, Ipswich Town £10.8bn and Aston Villa £8.1bn. Everton are at £7.1bn, Liverpool £5.8bn, and Tottenham Hotspur and Leeds United both £5.2bn.
Nottingham Forest are listed at £3.3bn. Sunderland place 15th on £2.8bn under Louis-Dreyfus, narrowly ahead of AFC Bournemouth on £2.7bn and above Brighton & Hove Albion at £1.3bn. The list then shows Coventry City at £317m, Brentford at £280m and Hull City at £225m.
Louis-Dreyfus’ visibility and backing have endeared him to supporters. There is a sense on Wearside that more good times could follow.
