Sunderland can secure a significant financial lift by climbing the Premier League table over their final three fixtures.
They remain on the fringes of the European chase after Saturday's draw at Wolverhampton Wanderers. Focus now shifts to Manchester United at home, then Everton away, before Chelsea visit on the final day.
According to Sunderland Echo, each position is worth around two point six million pounds in merit payments, money that could aid their summer transfer planning.
Based on the current standings, Sunderland sit 12th, aligning with a merit payment of £23.8m. Clubs also receive equal-share distributions, £29.8m from domestic broadcasts and £59.2m from international rights last season.
Whether the Black Cats reach the Europa League or Europa Conference League remains to be seen, but a strong finish could swell the coffers. The next three weeks will shape their final placing and spending power.
