Sunderland fans laud 1937-inspired home kit as collar, crest and black socks draw praise | OneFootball

Sunderland supporters have largely welcomed the club's new 1937-inspired home kit after Tuesday's unveiling, with strong early reaction online. Sunderland Echo reports that the Hummel design, modelled on the 1937 FA Cup-winning strip, goes on sale at 8am on Wednesday.

The shirt pairs red-and-white stripes with a retro crest. Many fans highlighted those heritage touches among Hummel's best since the brand's return to Wearside.

Chris Liddle praised the nod to history, while Charl labelled the release a masterpiece, citing details such as the pop-button collar and back badge. Tom Wilcock singled out the collar, and Jake Collinson felt the pop-button look made for a decent shirt.

UnderTheLight suggested it might even pip the popular Championship home shirt as a favourite Hummel effort, with KASUTO also offering strong approval. Lewis’ Football Media went further, predicting it could become an all-time classic.

The return of black shorts and socks drew praise too, with It's All About Today envisaging a striking look under the lights against Italian opposition. MACCEM linked the kit to Sunderland's European return and hoped the new top and recent Elvis release bring good luck in the Premier League and in Europe. Dan Cooke admired the look and asked about Europa League name sets.

Not everyone was convinced. Nelios felt the crest colour should have mirrored the blue of the 1937 original, and David preferred last season's range, criticising the badge and the pink shirt.
