Sunderland are weighing a move for Toulouse left-back Dayann Methalie, with Football Insider reporting the 20-year-old has been identified for the left side of Régis Le Bris’ defence.
Methalie broke through at his boyhood club last season, making 28 Ligue 1 appearances and contributing two goals and one assist. The France Under-21 international came through Toulouse’s academy and is viewed as a long-term prospect.
Le Bris and his staff have kept a close watch on the French market since arriving on Wearside, while director of football Florent Ghisolfi brings deep Ligue 1 knowledge. The report suggests Sunderland believe Methalie could step into Premier League football, although there is no indication of a bid or advanced talks.
Timothée Pembélé is reportedly closing in on a permanent return to Le Havre, with L’Équipe claiming the defender is set to rejoin after a loan there in the second half of last season. He joined Sunderland from Paris Saint-Germain in 2023 but struggled for regular minutes.
Former Sunderland left-back Dennis Cirkin is attracting interest after leaving at the end of his contract. Burnley are considering a move as they search for a new left-back following Hartman’s departure, while Schalke are understood to be monitoring the 24-year-old, who came through Tottenham’s academy.
