Sunderland ‘to line up’ Dayann Methalie move as Timothée Pembélé ‘set to rejoin’ Le Havre | OneFootball

Sunderland are weighing defensive options for a season featuring the Premier League and Europa League, with Dayann Methalie linked and developments around Timothée Pembélé and Dennis Cirkin.

Thomas Meunier has joined on a free on a two-year deal, adding experience and European nous to Régis Le Bris’ defence.

Football Insider reports Sunderland are lining up a move for Toulouse left-back Methalie. The 20-year-old made 28 Ligue 1 appearances last season, scoring two and assisting one, and is a France Under-21 international. There is no indication yet of a formal bid or advanced talks.

L’Équipe claims Pembélé is set for a permanent return to Le Havre after spending the second half of last season there on loan. Signed from Paris Saint-Germain in 2023, the 23-year-old struggled to establish himself in Sunderland’s first team.

Journalist Alan Nixon reports Burnley are considering a move for former Sunderland left-back Cirkin, who departed at the end of his contract. Schalke are also understood to be monitoring the 24-year-old.
