Sunderland have moved to ease season-ticket renewal concerns, with several fans understood to have been offered resolutions after club contact, Sunderland Echo reports.

Serious worries were raised last month when long-serving fans were unable to switch from corporate packages back to general admission, alongside direct debit and ticketing problems. The club told supporter group RAWA it would review cases and get in touch directly.

Among them, Steven Poppleton, who has followed Sunderland for 40 years and held a season ticket for two decades, sought to move from the premium 76 Yards area to general admission after the death of his father, George. Mobility issues were a key reason for the family’s earlier upgrade.

Despite his loyalty, he was initially told to join the waiting list. After his case was publicised and then raised by RAWA, he said the club called on Friday afternoon to apologise for the handling and offered general admission seats.

He was advised to expect a resolution by the end of Monday, and thanked the Branch Liaison Council and wider publicity for their support. He hopes others in similar situations are helped soon.

Other supporters have since received positive updates. In at least one instance this is understood to include a resolution around ticket access for next season and recognition of existing loyalty discounts. This suggests the club has begun to act on concerns flagged by fans and groups, though not every case has been settled.
