La Liga president Javier Tebas has fired another pointed message at Real Madri chief Florentino Perez.
Tebas did so on his personal account on the social media, responding to statements by the Real Madrid president in the past in which he had claimed that football no longer interests young people, citing it as one of the reasons for Los Blancos to support the Super League.
However, Tebas, referring to Perez as “the supreme being”, went on to state that the reality was far from what the Real Madrid chief saw, referring to an article by 2Playbook on stadium attendance.
“The ‘supreme being’ (and his mouthpieces) says that ‘football is dead,’ that ‘La Liga is no longer interesting,’ that ‘young people are abandoning it’… Well, look at reality, with data,” he wrote.
In the same post, Tebas listed a series of figures to support his argument: “Audiovisual rights: +9% growth in value in the domestic market. More than 30,000 spectators on average per match in the first half of the season.”
“More than 5.8 million fans in stadiums over 19 matchdays. On the way to a new attendance record, above the 11.4 million of last season. 15 clubs (75%) above 80% occupancy.”
Tebas also pointed out the stadium expansions and renovations being carried out across clubs in La Liga, writing:
“And meanwhile… cranes and works everywhere: Barça (Camp Nou), Celta (Balaídos), Getafe (new Coliseum), Betis at La Cartuja… and more renovations to improve experience, income and the future.”
Tebas concluded his message by stating: “Some build a false narrative. Others repeat it like parrots. The reality: the stands and the market speak. And La Liga is very much alive.”
