Telstar and FC Volendam set for final day battle to avoid potential Eredivisie relegation | OneFootball

Telstar travel the short distance to Volendam on Sunday afternoon in a proper relegation six pointer. The winner will guarantee their survival in the Eredivisie for the next season, while the loser will end up facing the winner of the Eerste Divisie play-offs, which will be either Willem II or Almere City.

Telstar do have an advantage going into the game, with a two point lead over Volendam going into the game. However, they are unlikely to look to just sit in and grind out a point given the risks involved. Last time the sides faced each other, back in August, the game ended 2-2, with Anthony Descotte scoring a second half brace to rescue a point for the side in orange.

Telstar are also going into the game in great form. The side have gone three games unbeaten, with two wins and a draw. In that time they have scored eight goals and conceded just two. This recent run, despite coming after the news that head coach Anthony Correia will be leaving the side at the end of the season to join Utrecht. Part of this great run of form has been the emergence of Sem van Duijn in recent weeks. The 22-year-old former AZ youngster has scored three goals in his last three games, with five for the season.

Volendam, while at home, have nothing to lose given the points difference between the two sides. If they want to remain in the Eredivisie and avoid the play-offs, the side know they just have to win. Both sides were only promoted from the second tier last season. Goals have been an issue for Volendam, with Robert Muhren leading the team with just six goals. Veteran striker Brandley Kuwas has also been in decent form with five goals and four assists in 31 games.

All games kick off at the same time on Sunday, although for Telstar and Volendam there will be no need to look elsewhere. Everything comes down to the 90 minutes between the two sides, and whoever loses out will need to pick themselves back up quickly before they face the winners of the Willem II v Almere City clash.
