Bobby Vincent of Football.London has just done a Q and A as we reach the midway point of the January transfer window, and as you’d expect, most questions are about potential moves Chelsea could make.

After being told all year that they wouldn’t sign anyone significant, there’s been a change in tone suddenly, and a defender is now apparently a possibility.

Vincent names two targets the club have already looked at, and claims there are potentially others:

“There is interest in [Jeremy] Jacquet and [Jacobo] Ramon. They are two centre-backs that have been closely monitored by Chelsea’s hierarchy this season.

“The Blues are considering their options at the moment. The centre of defence is definitely somewhere they feel needs strengthening. If you cast your mind back to last summer, they wanted to sign Dean Huijsen, but he ended up at Real Madrid.

“Chelsea only want to make a move in January if they feel the right player is available. The club’s sporting directors are in constant dialogue with Liam Rosenior over their options – with Jacquet and Ramon both names that have been discussed internally. At the moment, no other names I can report but there will be other targets, of course.”

We still think, as Matt Law said earlier this week, that Chelsea would have to sell one of their first team defender options if they want to bring someone in. Right now that doesn’t seem too likely. But the tantalising possibility remains out there.
