A player has been opening up on Chelsea’s attempts to sign him during the summer transfer window just gone.

Chelsea were very much in the headlines a lot during the summer window, with so much going on. But you never know what story is true, what story actually has weight to it, and what is truly going on in these deals.

EXCLUSIVE! Cole Palmer now has NEW injury and will be out for a set time!

So it is great when we get to hear from a player involved in a rumour to be able to clarify it and let us know what actually happened.

There was one story late on for Chelsea that was gathering some pace and looked like it had something to it. Chelsea were seemingly trying to sign Fermin Lopez from Barcelona and pushed for it. In the end, it didn’t happen, but just how close did it get?

In words picked up by Football Espana, Lopez was asked how close he got to joining Chelsea.

He replied:

“Not on the verge. There were offers from other clubs, but I never had any intention of leaving, and I don’t think the club wanted to sell me. I’ve been a Barca fan my whole life. Since I was little. It all came from my mother’s uncle, who has always been a Barca fan.”

Sounds like he never wants out

The rumours were big at the time, but it sounds like Lopez never wanted to leave Barcelona and never will want to leave Barcelona!

Chelsea usually get player buy in before they make an offer to sign them, so this move was a little strange. I guess it was more of an opportunistic move by The Blues to try and get a deal done late on.
