Tottenham Hotspur manager Thomas Frank has delivered a mixed but mostly positive update on the injury front ahead of their Premier League trip to Everton this Sunday.
Spurs will be hoping to get a grip on their mini-slump before it becomes a full-blown crisis, having gone winless in back-to-back games across all competitions.
In fact, after a fine start to the season, Frank’s side have now won just one of their last five games in all competitions, although their only defeat in that stretch came against Aston Villa (D3).
Tottenham head to Hill Dickinson Stadium on the back of a goalless draw against AS Monaco in Wednesday’s Champions League outing.
While getting back to winning ways will be their primary objective this weekend, Frank’s side will have to do so without three key players.
The Danish manager confirmed that Cristian Romero, Destiny Udogie, and Dominic Solanke are all making encouraging progress in their recoveries.
Romero missed last weekend’s home defeat to Villa after suffering an adductor problem during the warm-up. His absence forced Kevin Danso to step in, with Micky van de Ven taking over as captain.
Frank revealed that the Argentine defender is already back running on the grass and working closely with the club’s performance staff.
“Cuti has been out on the grass, running with some of the performance guys,” Frank said during his pre-match press conference.
“So, positive, progressing, no time frame, but I don’t expect it to be a longer one.”
Meanwhile, Udogie has not featured since the win at Leeds United on October 4 due to a minor irritation in his knee.
He hasn’t returned to full training yet, but Frank is confident his recovery is moving in the right direction.
“Destiny is not on the grass yet, but still progressing,” he said. “Again, not a longer one.”
Solanke is also on the cusp of a comeback after undergoing minor ankle surgery last month. The striker has started light individual work on the pitch to slowly build up his fitness.
“Dominic, positive, he’s taking steps in the right direction every day,” he said.
“He was on the grass again today, on his own, but now has a sustainable amount of pitch sessions in him on his own, so he’s progressing forward.”
