Tottenham face another test of squad depth as three key players remain unavailable for the upcoming Premier League meeting with Everton. Injuries have shaped much of the London club’s season, and the latest updates provide cautious optimism without firm return dates. With Tottenham aiming to maintain momentum near the top of the table, the fitness of Cristian Romero, Destiny Udogie and Dominic Solanke is once again under the spotlight.
Cristian Romero has been absent for the 2 to 1 defeat against Aston Villa and the goalless draw with Monaco. The defender has been managing an adductor problem, although early signs suggest that his time out will not stretch into a lengthy spell on the sidelines.
Thomas Frank shared a positive update on his captain’s recovery during his pre match press conference. He revealed that Romero is stepping up his workload and is edging closer to a return.
“Cuti just walked out on the grass running [with] some of the performance guys,” Frank told reporters. “So positive, progressing, no time frame, but I don’t expect it to be a longer one.”
His influence at the back has been significant in previous matches this season, and Tottenham’s defensive unit has felt his absence. The club will hope that his gradual return to outdoor work speeds up the process of full team involvement soon.
Destiny Udogie has also missed Tottenham’s last two fixtures after suffering a knee issue while away with Italy. His absence has disrupted Spurs rhythm on the left side, particularly given his strong contributions in both defensive and attacking phases.
“Destiny is not on the grass yet but still progressing, so again not a longer one,” Frank said.

The lack of a fixed timeline reflects a cautious approach. Tottenham are keen to avoid any setbacks and want to reintegrate Udogie at the right stage of his rehabilitation.
Tottenham’s striking options have also been affected, with Dominic Solanke undergoing a minor ankle procedure last month. The problem first emerged during pre season and has limited his availability during a key period of the campaign.
Frank suggested that Solanke is advancing well in his recovery, although his return date is still uncertain.
“Dominic, positive, he’s taking steps in the right direction every day,” Frank said. “Was on the grass again today on his own, but has now a sustainable amount of pitch session in him on his own, so it’s progressing forward.”
Tottenham will be eager to have Solanke back in full training soon given his ability to provide a focal point in attack, as well as much needed depth during a congested fixture schedule.
