Despite putting in a largely encouraging performance away against Juventus on Friday night, Inter fell to an underwhelming 4-3 defeat, and newspapers in Italy have identified three players who were not at their best during the Derby d’Italia disappointment.
Lloyd Kelly’s opener was cancelled out by Hakan Calhanoglu. Kenan Yildiz restored the Bianconeri lead before half-time, only for Calhanoglu to equalise again. Brothers Marcus and Khephren Thuram both found the back of the net with a pair of headers, before a stunning 91st-minute winner from Juventus teenager Vasilije Adzic.
Under criticism from the likes of La Gazzetta dello Sport and Corriere dello Sport on Sunday is Nerazzurri goalkeeper Yann Sommer, who might have done better for two of Juventus’s goals at the Allianz Stadium.

The Swiss veteran got a hand to Yildiz’s goal for 2-1, and though the strike was well placed, the keeper was fairly slow across his line and will be disappointed not to have kept the effort out.
Similarly for Adzic’s late winner, Sommer’s hands were not strong enough. The 19-year-old’s shot was well-hit, but Sommer had two hands on the ball and was still unable to prevent it from hitting the back of the net.
La Gazzetta dello Sport and Corriere dello Sport both criticised new signing Manuel Akanji for his part in Juventus’s opener.

The feeling is that the former Manchester City defender was not tight enough to goalscorer Kelly, who had far too much time and space to pick his spot within the penalty area for 1-0.
Another underwhelming performance in the Inter camp came from captain Lautaro Martinez. Fabio Capello noted that the Argentine ‘looked tired’ during spells of the Derby d’Italia, likely as a result of his recent international commitments and the long journey back from South America to San Siro earlier this week.
