Juventus’ long pursuit of Randal Kolo Muani collapsed dramatically after weeks of negotiations with Paris Saint-Germain, according to Gazzetta dello Sport, “Too late came that call in the moonlight, between 31 August and 1 September. In Paris they only woke up at 3am, while in Turin they already had an alternative in hand.” The saga that had seemed certain to end with Kolo Muani in black and white was undone by delays, financial obstacles and shifting demands.

Juventus had spent days reflecting on the rising costs. “From the 60 million requested for the loan with an obligation to buy to the 8 million salary demanded by the player.” That package, when added to the 12 million already paid annually to Dusan Vlahovic, was deemed unsustainable. As one Turin insider put it, the deal had become “a mission impossible”.

Instead, Juventus turned towards Openda and Zhegrova, younger and cheaper options who, according to Gazzetta, together cost “practically what Paris asked for Kolo Muani”. Their arrival was timed with the departure of Nico Gonzalez, ensuring the wage bill remained under tighter control. For Juventus, it was a pragmatic pivot.
While Juventus debated, Tottenham struck. “Tottenham observed in silence and in the end placed the move on a straight loan that Juventus had chased for months.” For Spurs, it represents both a coup and a gamble, adding a forward of proven pedigree without committing vast sums immediately. For Juventus, it is a reminder that hesitation in the market carries consequences.
Supporters have watched Tottenham in recent years struggle to compete financially with Europe’s elite, often missing out on marquee names. To see the club act decisively, seizing the moment while Juventus hesitated, feels refreshing.
Kolo Muani’s arrival on loan is especially thrilling because it reduces the risk. Spurs fans know the Premier League can be a brutal environment for strikers arriving from abroad, but this deal allows him to prove himself without a colossal fee hanging over his head. His pace, movement and physicality are exactly what Tottenham need to add variety to their attack. The fact that Juventus backed away due to financial constraints only highlights how Spurs have secured a deal that looks shrewd rather than reckless.
There will of course be caution. Supporters remember other big names who failed to settle quickly in North London. Yet the sight of Spurs winning a transfer battle over a European giant like Juventus, and doing so on terms that protect the club, is a sign of growing ambition and sharper decision-making. For fans, it will feel like a moment to dream of a forward line capable of frightening any defence in the Premier League.
