Two Chelsea fans have been hospitalised after an attack in Naples’ Piazza Santa Maria La Nova ahead of their club’s Champions League clash with Napoli.
As per La Gazzetta dello Sport, one 22-year-old supporter was taken to Pellegrini Hospital, where he was treated and released, while it’s uncertain about the other.
Chelsea issued a statement on their social media profiles regarding the incident: “The club is aware of an incident that occurred Tuesday evening in Naples. Two fans are hospitalised with minor injuries. The club would like to remind all fans to exercise extreme caution during their stay in the city and to take note of the advice provided prior to this match.”
Ahead of this match, Chelsea had reportedly listed a series of recommendations for the trip to Italy. As is customary before a European away match, these included not wearing clothing or symbols associated with their team and not moving together visibly as Blues supporters during their stay in the city.
