Udinese starlet Branimir Mlacic has revealed why he turned down the chance to join Inter Milan in January, with the Croatia teenager insisting he did not want to rush his development by moving to one of Europe’s biggest clubs too soon.
Inter came close to signing the 2007-born centre-back from Hajduk Split, but the deal ultimately fell through, with Mlacic himself a key factor in that outcome.
Udinese moved quickly to secure his signature in the final days of the January window.
Speaking to Sportske Novosti, via FCInter1908, Mlacic addressed the Inter link directly.
“It is an honour to be contacted by a giant like Inter,” he said. “But I do not think you should skip any steps. I hope the moment will come when I am ready for that level.”
His decision reflects a maturity beyond his years.
Rather than chasing the glamour of a move to San Siro, Mlacic chose a path that prioritises regular football and gradual progression.
At Udinese, he has settled quickly.
“My teammates welcomed me brilliantly and the coach communicates with me constantly,” he added.
“I am preparing mainly for next season and using this period to adapt.”
