Valencia have reached a hard-fought agreement to sign Guido Rodriguez, the Argentine having been their first-choice midfield target in this winter window.

According to Superdeporte, talks threatened to collapse at points, yet club and player made a late push to unlock the move. Aliou Dieng was considered, but Carlos Corberán preferred a proven profile with La Liga experience.

West Ham held an option to extend his contract by one year, giving them control over the situation. Valencia first committed to pay a transfer fee so the English club would release him and move ahead of other suitors. Corberán’s persistence, the player’s willingness to reduce his salary, and Ron Gourlay’s good relations with West Ham executives also helped.

Rodriguez has agreed a deal until 30 June 2026. The club believes there is enough room in the coming months to open talks to prolong his stay, aiming to convince him with the sporting plan and pay in line with his role.

He is expected to arrive in Valencia in the coming hours for a medical and to finalise the contract.
