According to AS, Valencia have agreed a contract extension with Cristian Rivero that keeps the goalkeeper at Mestalla until 2027. The academy product has been with the club since the age of ten.
Rivero made his first-team debut in 2020 after progressing through the ranks. He has also spent loan spells at Alcorcón and Albacete.
He returned last summer after a season at Albacete, where he played just over 500 minutes across 11 matches. Jaume Doménech’s retirement reshaped the goalkeeping group.
Rivero has not featured this season, with Carlos Corberán placing his trust in Agirrezabala and Dimitrievski, although Rivera is valued for his work in training. He was due to be out of contract on 30 June and is a popular figure in the dressing room.
Agirrezabala will return to Athletic Club once his loan is complete. Dimitrievski’s deal expires but could be extended, as the club hold an option for two more seasons. If nothing changes, Rivero is expected to continue as the third-choice goalkeeper.
Valencia also have high hopes for academy keepers Vicente Abril and Raúl Jiménez. Abril has been a regular in squads while Agirrezabala is injured, and Jiménez has also been called up this season. Both are Spain youth internationals and still need minutes to develop before challenging for the first team.
