Vedat Muriqi becomes Mallorca’s all-time La Liga top scorer, surpassing Samuel Eto'o | OneFootball

Vedat Muriqi wrote his name into Mallorca’s history on Sunday, a brace in a 3-0 win over Rayo Vallecano taking him to 55 La Liga goals and beyond Samuel Eto'o’s 54.

As reported by L'Équipe, the Kosovo striker, nicknamed the Pirate, is enjoying the most prolific season of his career. On 8 March he hit his 17th and 18th of the campaign in a 2-2 draw with Osasuna, breaking Mallorca’s single-season Liga record, previously Eto'o’s 17 in 2003-04.

The victory was significant in the survival fight, with Mallorca 15th on 34 points.

The club marked the milestone by displaying the 1.94m forward’s boots in the museum at San Moix.

Kosovo’s record scorer with 32 goals, Muriqi arrived in Palma in January 2022. On social media he called it an honour to surpass a great name such as Samuel Eto'o and thanked his team-mates and those who believed in him.

His weekend double moves him to 21 Liga goals this season, two behind Kylian Mbappé on 23.
