Maguire overcame a major mid-career decline to regain the trust of the club and fanbase. While the defender returned to prominence under Ruben Amorim, Mainoo was relegated to the bench under the Portuguese tactician, but he’s been ever-present in the starting lineup since Michael Carrick’s arrival in January.
With both men considered regular starters, Man Utd have been keen to tie down Mainoo and Maguire with new deals.
According to Italian journalist Fabrizio Romano, INEOS plans to accelerate the negotiations on both fronts following the duo’s return from the international duty with the Three Lions.
MUFC are aiming to finalise the negotiations before the end of the season, before they can shift their focus towards summer signings.
The transfer market expert revealed that Mainoo’s contract talks are ‘very advanced’, while the agreement with Maguire is ‘almost done’.
Mainoo remains one of the club’s lowest earners, collecting circa £20,000 per week, and his current contract is valid until June 2027.
On the other hand, Maguire’s deal will expire at the end of the season, and he currently earns £190,000 per week, making him one of the best-paid players at United.
Therefore, the young midfielder will earn a significant pay rise, while Maguire will have to accept a major wage cut to extend his stay at the club.
Mainoo’s new contract will run until June 2031, while the experienced defender will only sign a one-year extension, thus pushing back the deadline until 2027, with an option for another season.
