FC Bayern Munich head coach Vincent Kompany is ready for Champions League football at the Allianz Arena after Saturday night’s 5-0 demolition of Hamburger SV in the Bundesliga “Top Spiel”. The German record champions will stick around the Säbener Straße before hosting defending Conference League and Club World Cup champions Chelsea on Wednesday.
“We have some momentum that we’re ready to carry into the next home game,” Kompany noted at the post-match press conference. “We got off to a flying start tonight. The fans were just ready for this game. The feeling from the first minute onwards was just awesome. It’s not Oktoberfest just yet, but the atmosphere ensured that it felt like it.“
Bayern certainly can’t be accused of lacking energy, even if they (perhaps slightly out of a sense of historical respect) opted to take their foot off the gas pedal in the second half against HSV. Naturally, the real reason Bayern shifted into administrative mode concerned the fact that they needed to conserve some energy ahead of their meeting with the Blues.
In stark contrast to his last Bundesliga post-match press conference prior to the international break, Kompany had no complaints about Bayern’s over-taxed schedule. Despite the fact that plenty of FCB attackers had to report for international duty over the break, the “FCB fabulous front four” clicks seamlessly.
