Wayne Rooney criticised Leeds United and their supporters as poor after the 0-0 draw with Brentford, while Alan Shearer outlined a modest survival target.

Leeds failed to score for a fourth straight Premier League game, created no big chances and posted 0.54 xG. They defended well again to earn another clean sheet, with Daniel Farke admitting a draw was nothing to celebrate.

On a poignant night as Elland Road remembered Christopher Loftus and Kevin Speight, murdered in Istanbul almost 26 years ago, the mood swung between raucous and nervy. “It was a hard watch,” said the former Manchester United striker, speaking on Match of the Day. “For the importance of the game and where Leeds are, I thought they and the fans were poor.”

“I thought the [Leeds] fans never got behind them as Leeds fans can do. It was a bad game.”

Alan Shearer said: “If you can’t win the game, then don’t get beaten. It could be a massive point for Leeds. They’ve got Wolves and Burnley to play at home and I think another four points will be enough.”

Tottenham host Nottingham Forest today and West Ham go to Aston Villa. Leeds will be four points clear of the relegation zone when those games kick off and cannot drop below 16th by full-time. Farke’s side now have a three-week break before their next Premier League fixture.
