American president Donald Trump has this weekend revealed his appreciation for what he considers a kind-hearted gesture on the part of Barcelona star Ferran Torres.
Frontman Ferran has of course dominated the world football headlines over the course of the last week. This comes after the 26-year-old etched his name into the history books of international football.
Introduced off the bench during the World Cup final showdown between Spain and Argentina, Ferran went on to net the game’s only goal deep into extra-time.
Then, during the ensuing celebrations back in Spain, the former Manchester City man turned heads once more…
As La Roja’s players and fans came together for an evening of festivities earlier this week, Ferran was spotted donning a cap featuring the words:
‘Make Spain Great Again’
A play on the controversial ‘Make America Great Again’ slogan coined by Donald Trump and his supporters in the USA, this gesture was interpreted in a whole host of ways, with many having assumed that Ferran’s choice of outfit was intended as a lighthearted jibe.
Safe to say, though, that Donald Trump himself did not see the situation this way.
Speaking during an appearance in front of the media this weekend, the 80-year-old revealed his take that:
“He’s a great player. He was wearing essentially a ‘Make America Great Again’ cap. It was a nice tribute, and I think he did it with very good intentions. We really appreciate it.”
