Manchester City youngster Sverre Nypan has spoken out on his move to the Etihad Stadium earlier this summer and his early thoughts on his loan to Middlesbrough.
The 18-year-old made the move to Manchester as Pep Guardiola and City officials convinced the midfielder to make the switch from Norway, beating the likes of Aston Villa and Arsenal, as well as other European giants, to secure his signature.
The promising talent was swiftly sent out on loan to the EFL Championship at the start of the campaign to gain valuable experience and have the opportunity for regular first-team football, having fielded widespread interest from more than 10 clubs.
Sverre Nypan has got what was desired for him by all parties so far this season, appearing in seven out of nine Championship fixtures, starting two and appearing from the bench in five – consistent minutes that will certainly please both Nypan and City.
It has hardly been a seamless transition for the youngster, however, having to quickly become accustomed to life in England in addition to the footballing philosophy at his new club and the intensity of training.
In a new interview with Nettavisen, translated and relayed by Sport Witness, Nypan has admitted and explained adjusting to the high physical demand and rigorousness of training since joining his new club on loan.
“I remember the first training there; I was running around and could hardly think,” he said. “You had to get up under pressure and run as much as you could. Gradually it becomes normal; the metres you have to cover become a habit.
“Then you are able to calm your head down a bit and start thinking at the same time as you cover the metres you have to. I feel like I am making progress every day. It is important to get pace in your game; that is what I am after.”
The midfielder continued to express how this loan spell will be beneficial to him and his aspirations to break into the quality-exuding first-team at his parent club in future, with his time in the North-East to come to a close upon completion of the 2025/26 campaign.
“I feel I’ve already taken some steps up in terms of fitness and have more steps to take,” he explained. “Demands are set, and that’s actually nice. It’s very educational and something I needed. I’m learning a lot. It was something I needed and part of the reason why I went there.”
The Norwegian international stated a desire to not rush in gears to what is next for him after his loan, “I don’t like to think that far into the future. I’ll take this season here with Middlesbrough, and we’ll see what happens,” he added.
Despite still being very young and certainly a raw talent who needs time to grow, it is certain that Sverre Nypan has a promising future ahead of him, and it will certainly be exciting to see what that future holds.
