West Ham United have seen many ups and downs in their performance over the past few years. From European nights to struggles in the Premier League, the direction of the team has constantly changed. Graham Potter’s entry has already signalled a new beginning. Potter is known for giving his players new roles and bringing freshness to the team’s strategy. In such a situation, the club are now looking for a player who can breathe new life into the attack.

Last season, West Ham did have some good moments, but the lack of consistency was visible. There was often reliance on Michail Antonio and Jarrod Bowen for goals. Lucas Paquetá provided some energy from midfield, but injuries and inconsistency in impact blunted the team’s edge. Potter knows that a new striker could complete this puzzle. The club have the investment power, and the scouting team has become active.

According to a report in Gazzetta dello Sport, West Ham United have shown interest in Cagliari striker Roberto Piccoli. The report is cited by SportWitness, which states that the club have made contact with Cagliari. Although other big clubs are also in the race for Piccoli, the Hammers are currently considered to be the front-runners.

Roberto Piccoli, 24 years old, started out in Atalanta’s youth system but never made his first-team debut there. He had several loan spells, and now Cagliari have signed him permanently. The Talian excels in traits like aerial ability, intelligent movement and finishing touch. Cagliari have set a price tag of €30 million for him, while West Ham are willing to pay around €25 million.

Can Piccoli become the key asset for the Hammers?

The 24-year-old has the potential of a raw striker whose age and hunger to play fit the club’s long-term vision. Potter likes forwards who play with positional flexibility and a high work rate, and Piccoli fits both criteria.

Although the intensity of the Premier League will be new to him, he could be a smart signing if he gets time and proper coaching. The Italian has shown his instincts in limited chances at a club like Cagliari, and could adapt slowly to the fast pace of the Premier League.

If West Ham complete the deal, it would not only add squad depth but it would also allow Potter to add tactical variation. Piccoli might not be an immediate game-changer, but with the right nurturing, he could become a key striker for the Hammers over the next couple of seasons.
