West Ham’s Crysencio Summerville yet to accept Al-Hilal, Roma remain hopeful | OneFootball

Serie A side Roma were dealt a significant blow in their move for West Ham’s Crysencio Summerville yesterday. Al-Hilal made a major offer and also put forward significant wages to the player.

The deal may not be done yet, with La Gazzetta dello Sport going into significant details.

Yesterday, Roma had sent A l plane to Rotterdam to pick up Summerville and fly him to Ciampino Airport at 9:40 PM after three days of negotiations. This was just in time for him to appear on the balcony alongside Paulo Dybala at the club’s 99th anniversary celebrations.

The player had accepted a four-year deal worth €4.2 million per season, while West Ham had agreed to an offer exceeding €50 million. This would have made the Dutchman the highest-paid player in Roma’s history.

Aston Villa withdrew from the race and turned their attention to Alejandro Garnacho. Tony D’Amico was waiting for the final message for the green light, but that message never arrived. By early afternoon, the mystery was solved. Al-Hilal had offered €70 million to West Ham and €60 million to the player over four years.

Gasperini trying to revive move

The deal seemed over, but late in the evening, a new twist occurred. Gian Piero Gasperini contacted Summerville, trying to further motivate him to choose Roma. There were several reasons – a central role at the club, Champions League participation, the chance to shine and perhaps return to a top Premier League club in the future. Then came the call from his friend and international teammate Donyell Malen, while the Friedkins were working with West Ham to understand the reason for the change of heart.

The Dutchman’s family also doesn’t seem very convinced by the destination for several reasons. Summerville has put his medical with Al-Hilal on hold and taken a night to think about it. The results will arrive soon. Al-Hilal are optimistic but Roma are hopeful things could still be in their favour.
