After almost two decades associated with Sheffield United, Andre Brooks’ time at Bramall Lane has officially come to an end after Norwich City agreed a substantial undisclosed fee to bring the academy graduate to Carrow Road.

For Blades supporters, this transfer feels different. Brooks wasn’t just another player passing through the club. He was a Sheffielder living every young fan’s dream.

Joining Sheffield United’s academy at just eight years old, Brooks progressed through every age group in the club’s renowned youth system before eventually earning his place in the first team. From academy prospect to Championship regular, his journey embodied everything supporters want to see from the club’s development pathway.

While his departure will undoubtedly disappoint many fans, it is also a reminder of what Sheffield United’s academy continues to produce.

A Breakthrough Campaign

The 2025/26 season proved to be Brooks’ most productive in a Sheffield United shirt.

The winger scored six goals in 41 appearances across all competitions, continuing the steady progression supporters had witnessed over recent years. Whether deployed on either wing or in a more advanced attacking role, Brooks became an increasingly important outlet for Chris Wilder’s side.

His confidence in one-on-one situations improved dramatically, while his defensive work rate and willingness to track back made him an ideal fit for Wilder’s demanding system.

His performances didn’t just catch the attention of Championship defenders.

In March 2026, Brooks earned his first senior caps for Jamaica, marking another milestone in a career that has steadily gathered momentum. Representing his country on the international stage was further evidence that the academy graduate had developed into a player capable of performing at a higher level.

Now, those performances have earned him the opportunity to begin a new chapter with Norwich City.

Academy Duo Broken Up

Perhaps the biggest consequence of Brooks’ departure is the breaking up of one of Sheffield United’s most exciting homegrown partnerships.

Alongside right-back Femi Seriki, Brooks formed a combination that simply couldn’t be replicated overnight.

The Blades do already possess an option on the right wing in Tahith Chong, who recently completed his World Cup campaign with Curaçao. However, if truth be told, Chong enters pre-season facing significant questions from a sizeable section of the Sheffield United fanbase.

Injuries and inconsistency have prevented him from becoming the influential player many supporters hoped he would be when he arrived, leaving uncertainty over whether he can become the long-term answer on the right flank.

If Chris Wilder decides reinforcements are required, there are two names that stand out for very different reasons.

Blades Could Opt For Experienced Cheap Option

One potential option is former West Bromwich Albion winger Jed Wallace, who is currently available following his departure from The Hawthorns. While Wallace saw his playing time reduced last season, his Championship pedigree remains unquestionable.

For the best part of a decade, Wallace established himself as one of the division’s most productive wide players, particularly during his outstanding spell with Millwall.

His direct running, relentless work ethic and consistently dangerous crossing made him one of the Championship’s most reliable attacking outlets.

Even as recently as the 2023/24 campaign, Wallace produced six goals and five assists while starting more than 35 Championship matches.

Now aged 32, he may no longer possess the explosive acceleration that once terrified full-backs, but experience can often prove just as valuable.

For Sheffield United, Wallace would represent a low-risk addition capable of providing leadership, consistency and proven Championship quality without requiring a significant transfer fee.

Could Millwall Man Be A Suitable Andre Brooks Replacement?

If Sheffield United decide to reinvest a sizable portion of the Brooks money, another intriguing option is Millwall’s Camiel Neghli. The Algerian enjoyed an encouraging first full season in English football after joining the Lions in January 2025.

Comfortable operating as both a right winger and a number 10, Neghli possesses many of the attributes that made Brooks such an exciting player. He’s quick across the ground, technically gifted and naturally left-footed, allowing him to drift inside and create shooting opportunities. Yet despite favouring his left foot, he has shown he is more than capable of finishing with either.

Last season, the 24-year-old registered five goals and four assists across 48 Championship appearances, including the play-offs. Considering it was his first complete campaign in English football, there is every reason to believe his ceiling remains significantly higher.

Of course, acquiring him won’t come cheaply. Millwall reportedly invested around £2.8 million to sign Neghli and would almost certainly demand well in excess of £5 million to even consider selling one of their most promising attacking players. Still, if Sheffield United are searching for a player capable of growing with the squad rather than simply filling a short-term gap, Neghli would undoubtedly fit that profile.
