Manchester United beat Juventus 1-0 in the UEFA Women’s Champions League – meaning they finish sixth in the group standings, and progress to the two-legged play-offs for a quarter-final place.
Jess Park scored an excellent goal in the 18th minute to wrap up the victory.
And head coach Marc Skinner was pleased with the achievement, calling the Lioness’s strike a moment of “individual quality”.
But he then took the opportunity to call for some investment in the Manchester United squad during the forthcoming transfer window.
“I think we need to add to this group of players, because I think they’re giving absolutely everything, and we’re working well to try and do that,” he said after the match, according to the club’s official website.
“But we definitely need to add to this group, because the games are coming Wednesday, Sunday, Wednesday, Sunday, it’s too much to keep churning out the high level performance against a team like Juve.
“So I’m proud of tonight, because we’ve done that, but we need to add in the winter window for sure.”
And he emphasised the rigours of the fixture schedule when it comes to being one of the leading teams in Europe.
“I think that we believe that we’re a very good team, but we didn’t have a lot of European experience to start in the qualifying rounds. We’ll have played the same amount of games in the first half of the season as we do in the whole of the league calendar in England. So we’ve played a lot of games in a short amount of time.
“What I’d say is that we are very, very proud to be in the top six in Europe.”
He added: “Whoever we get now, I feel that we can give them the best of ourselves, and if we can do that, who knows where we can go?
“I’m looking forward to the challenge of the Champions League in 2026.”
