Vivianne Miedema will not be part of the Manchester City squad to face Brighton and Hove Albion in the Women’s Super League this weekend.
City head coach Andree Jeglertz told the media on Thursday: “Unfortunately Viv [Miedema] is not available due to some family matters. Otherwise everyone else is available.”
The Netherlands international had been ruled out of other games recently through injury.
Jeglertz confirmed that Kerstin Casparij had returned to full training, and was keen to underline the multitude of attacking options he has at his disposal to fill the number 10 role next to Bunny Shaw leading the line – even without the threat of Miedema.
“Viv has been amazing for us in that role and she has had a fantastic season, she has done so many things,” said Jeglertz.
“We have an opportunity now in this game to see another player in that role and you mentioned a couple of options [Aoba Fujino, Kerolin, Mary Fowler]. All of them could play there.
“Grace Clinton is back and they’re players [that] can do that. That can be more unpredictable for Brighton because they don’t know what we will bring because it will be a different kind of 10 to Viv Miedema.”
And despite the international break interrupting their momentum, Jeglertz expects his side to resume their pursuit of the WSL title as keenly as ever.
“The energy has been great and the focus is very important for our team that the ones that are not going away are still doing good training sessions so we are all on the same level and prepared for the coming week. Everyone looks very sharp.”
