Will Hannibal Mejbri face Premier League suspension? FA opens investigation after Leeds match controversy
The English Football Association FA has officially charged Tunisia international Hannibal Mejbri with misconduct following alleged incident during Burnley’s 2-0 victory over Leeds United in October’s Premier League clash.
In statement released on Tuesday, the FA confirmed that the 22 year old midfielder is accused of spitting "at or towards" Leeds supporters during the second half of the match at Turf Moor.
"It’s alleged that the player’s conduct was improper and/or abusive, in that he spat at or towards opposing fans — a breach of FA Rule E3" the governing body said.
The incident reportedly occurred around the 67 minute although Mejbri only entered the match as substitute in the 83 minute.
The FA has given Mejbri until Thursday 28 November to respond to the charge before issuing final verdict. If found guilty, the former Manchester United academy graduate could face lengthy suspension and fine as spitting is considered one of the most serious offences under FA regulations.
