Wolves 1877 Trust has issued a stark post-relegation warning, saying the outlook is unclear and lessons must be learned across the club.

Wolves spent almost the entire campaign in the bottom three, and relegation was sealed by defeat to Leeds and West Ham’s draw with Crystal Palace, according to ExpressAndStar.com. Chairman Nathan Shi said the club is ready to respond to try to return at the first attempt.

The Trust says promotion will demand a very different approach, with past errors avoided and supporters’ voices heard. It notes that only one in four relegated sides go straight back up, and portrays the future as far from bright or clear. It adds that Wolves are back where they started under Fosun, with stadium decline, strained fan relations and a sidelined council.

It urges the club to avoid a second successive drop at all costs and to consult those involved in 2011/12 and 2012/13. Senior hires should have English football experience, and players with domestic knowhow should not be replaced by newcomers to England. Off the pitch it calls for promised ticket cuts at Molineux, arguing pricing has hurt attendances and atmosphere.

The Trust welcomes improving engagement since former chairman Jeff Shi’s exit, with a forum planned, but says much more is needed. It highlights Wolves Women, who could win promotion to Women’s Super League two this weekend, as a lift for fans. It says it will keep working on supporters’ behalf to help the club recover.
