Sky Sports reports that Wolves have sacked Rob Edwards seven months after his appointment, following relegation to the Championship, with Cesar Peixoto, currently head coach of Portuguese side Gil Vicente, expected to be named as his replacement.

Edwards left Championship promotion-chasers Middlesbrough to take over at Molineux in November. The 43-year-old had begun to improve results after a dreadful start to the season.

He had appeared set to lead a push for an immediate return, aiming for promotion at the first attempt.

The decision represents a U-turn by the club, who had seemed ready to persist with Edwards despite relegation, and comes against the backdrop of their rivalry with Leeds United in the survival battle.
