Wolverhampton Wanderers are weighing a move for former Sunderland captain Dan Neil as they prepare for the Championship, Football League World reports.
The 24-year-old midfielder is set to leave on a free when his Sunderland contract expires at the end of the season.
An academy graduate, Neil made 201 appearances for the Black Cats and was central to their climb from the third tier, featuring in two promotion-winning campaigns to reach the Premier League.
His minutes were limited following Sunderland’s return to the top flight. He played only three Premier League games under Régis Le Bris before joining Ipswich Town on loan in January, and has since made 13 appearances in their promotion push.
Sunderland have confirmed Neil will depart this summer, ending a long association that began in the academy. With significant changes expected at Molineux, particularly in midfield, the report adds Wolves view him as a cost-effective option with proven experience at that level. It remains to be seen whether Ipswich pursue a permanent deal.
