The WSL stopped last weekend for its annual winter break, but there was Women’s League Cup action this weekend, and some teams have certainly not eased up for the holiday period.

Chelsea thrashed Liverpool 9-1, with Johanna Rytting Kaneryd bagging a hat-trick, and Manchester City put West Ham to the sword, picking up a 5-1 win.

All four quarter-finals were played on Sunday, and Arsenal, Chelsea, Manchester United and Manchester City are the sides who have advanced to the semi-finals.

Arsenal beat Crystal Palace with Laia Codina and Stina Blackstenius getting the goals in a 2-0 win, whilst Manchester United beat Tottenham 2-1.

Martin Ho’s side took the lead through Drew Spence in the 16th minute, but a second half turnaround saw the Manchester outfit book their place in the next round.

Chelsea played Liverpool in the WSL only a month ago and the game finished 1-1, making this scoreline all the more baffling.

Gareth Taylor’s side have been struggling with injuries but that was no excuse for what happened in the game. Aside from Kaneryd, Sam Kerr scored a brace, with Wieke Kaptein, Aggie Beever-Jones, Sjoeke Nusken and Millie Bright getting the other goals.

Manchester City had five different scorers in their route over West Ham, and had gone 2-0 up within the first eight minutes.

Bunny Shaw notched again, meaning she now has 11 goals and four assists in her last seven games for club and country.

Arsenal will host Manchester United, and Manchester City will welcome Chelsea in the semi-finals of the competition. Those games will be played on January 21 and 22.
