World Cup 2026 breaks record with 32 players from Brazilian clubs | OneFootball

World Cup 2026 will feature a record 32 players currently at Brazilian clubs, surpassing any previous edition. According to Globo.com, squads have called up more than a full team from the domestic league.

Brazil, Paraguay and Uruguay each selected seven. Ecuador named five, Colombia four, and Argentina and the Netherlands one apiece.

The previous high was set at the 1974 finals in Germany, when 27 Brazil-based players were chosen, including 22 for Brazil, three for Uruguay, one for Argentina and one for Chile. The second best came in 1986 with 25, split between 20 for Brazil, four for Uruguay and one for Paraguay.

This year also sets a separate landmark for foreign national-team selections, with 25 call-ups from Brazilian clubs, more than triple the previous record of seven in 2014.

That trend began in 1974, when five Brazil-based players represented other nations for the first time: Roberto Perfumo of Cruzeiro, Elías Figueroa of Internacional, Pablo Forlán and Pedro Rocha of São Paulo, and Ladislao Mazurkiewicz of Atlético-MG.
