Youngster shines as Corinthians strikers suffer goal drought

The offensive sector of Corinthians is going through a delicate moment. Except for the young Gui Negão, no forward in the squad has managed to score since July 30, when Memphis Depay secured a 1-0 victory over Palmeiras in the first leg of the Copa do Brasil round of 16.

Since then, in ten matches, Corinthians' goals have been limited to midfielders, defenders, and Gui Negão himself, who has gained more space due to absences and scored four times during this period.

The situation is particularly concerning for Yuri Alberto, the club's top scorer of the season. His last goal was on May 21, against Novorizontino, also in the Copa do Brasil. The striker has gone 124 days without scoring, during which he faced two absences, first due to a vertebra fracture, then for inguinal hernia surgery.

Among the other forwards, the newly arrived Vitinho has yet to break through. Signed in the last transfer window, he has played seven games since his debut on August 16. The youngster Kayke, promoted from the youth team, also remains scoreless after six appearances with the main team.

Ángel Romero is experiencing the longest drought. The Paraguayan hasn't scored since April 24, when he netted the winning goal in a 1-0 victory over Racing-URU in the Copa Sudamericana. It's been 151 days and 21 matches without goals.

In the ten matches since Memphis Depay's goal against archrival Palmeiras, Corinthians has won five times, drawn twice, and lost three, scoring 13 goals and conceding nine.

Another name in the sector, the Spaniard Héctor Hernández, continues to train separately and awaits a decision on his future. He scored his last goal on April 30 and has only played six matches since then, the last on June 12, without scoring again.
