Diego Moreira is being watched by some top teams after a strong spell at Strasbourg, and Chelsea could profit from that.

Chelsea’s policy of buying and selling for profit (in theory) has been going on for a few years now, and we’re reaching the point where some players they sold off are getting closer to their next move.

It looks like Diego Moreira could be one of them. After picking him up on a free transfer, the Blues sold him very cheaply to their sister club Strasbourg, where he’s looked great. Now it seems big European sides are interested, and Chelsea could be set to profit.

Chelsea need to walk tightrope with UEFA and Strasbourg

Florian Plettenberg is today reporting that Borussia Dortmund have Moreira on their shortlist and could be willing to pay €30-40m for him. Chelsea have a “very favourable buy back option,” meaning they could in theory buy the winger back themselves then sell him on to Dortmund at the price they agree with Strasbourg.

There will always be concerns about keeping UEFA happy that the two clubs are operating independently, and not frustrating Strasbourg too much by taking too much of their potential profit. But it wouldn’t be a deal dissimilar to those we’ve seen plenty of times before when teams want to cash in on a buy-back clause.

In other news…

Enzo Fernandez will serve the second game of his two game club ban this weekend, and that’s final.

A 23 year old having his breakout season in the Bundesliga is apparently a target for Spurs as well as Chelsea as they look to improve this summer.
