Milan sporting director Igli Tare travelled to Croatia to hold talks with Modric, who has given his green light to a move to the San Siro.

The former Real Madrid star has accepted a one-year contract with an option of another until 2027.

He will earn around €4 million per season, including bonuses.

The official announcement is only a matter of time, as Milan have scheduled medicals for Modric at the start of next week.

The Croatian international was linked with moves to Major League Soccer and the Saudi Pro League, but he has decided to continue in Europe to prepare for next year’s World Cup.

The 39-year-old has proven that he is ageing like a fine wine with his brilliant performances for Madrid in the last few seasons.

He made 57 appearances in all competitions this season despite having his role reduced.

He leaves behind an unmatched legacy with Los Blancos, having won six Champions League titles, four La Liga trophies and a handful of other honours.

Milan view Modric as a short-term option and are looking to bring in more midfielders in the transfer window.

Manager Massimiliano Allegri appreciates a more physical profile, with French duo Adrien Rabiot and Matteo Guendouzi reportedly on their wishlist.

Rabiot recently expressed his desire to reunite with Allegri, having played under him at Juventus.

Milan are braced for more departures, with goalkeeper Mike Maignan wanted by Premier League giants Chelsea.

Theo Hernandez has also turned down a contract extension offer, and Milan have reached an agreement with Al-Hilal over his sale.
