Paris Saint-Germain full-back Achraf Hakimi has been voted the CAF Men’s Player of the Year winner, beating Liverpool’s Mohamed Salah and Galatasaray’s Victor Osimhen to the award.
He becomes the first Moroccan to win Africa’s most prestigious individual football award since Mustapha Hadji in 1998.
Hakimi wins the highly prestigious prize after coming second to Osimhen in 2023 and Ademola Lookman a year later.
The 27-year-old has made a significant contribution to PSG’s successes over the last 12 months, particularly in their Champions League’s triumph last season.
He registered 10 goal involvements, including a goal apiece in the semi-final and final, to help them win the competition for the first time in the club’ history.
On the international stage, Hakimi played a pivotal role in Morocco’s qualification for next year’s World Cup, chipping in with four assists.
The PSG star is also in the running for the 2025 Globe Soccer Men’s award, but club team-mate Ousmane Dembele is the favourite.
Morocco will now hope that the right-back helps them win the African Cup of Nations, which will be hosted on home soil.
Meanwhile, Morocco’s Ghizlaine Chebbak won the Women’s Player of the Year award, beating international team-mate Sanaa Mssoudy and Nigerian forward Rasheedat Ajibade.
Yassine Bounou reclaimed the Goalkeeper of the Year award, which he first won in 2023, while Chiamaka Nnadozie won the female category for the third straight year.
