According to Foot Mercato, an agreement has been reached between Stade Rennais and Sunderland AFC for Eliezer Mayenda (21), valued at €22m with an additional €3m in bonuses.
The Spanish youth international has previous experience in France, having been a product of the FC Sochaux-Montbéliard academy, where he made his debut, becoming the youngest player in the club’s history to have appeared in a professional match.
Mayenda scored in Sunderland’s first game back in the top flight last season, but it wasn’t to be a sign of what was to come for the young forward. He struggled for consistent minutes with The Black Cats despite making 20 appearances.
At Rennes, he will look for more consistent game time as the club look to shake off the malaise of the last couple of seasons and return to their place as a consistent European challenger under the management of Franck Haise, which saw them clinch a qualifcation spot in the UEFA Europa League.
