Kristjan Asllani says that playing for Inter Milan is special to him because he has always supported the Nerazzurri.
The 22-year-old Albanian international opened up about his connection to Inter in the official matchday programme for today’s Serie A clash with Empoli.
Asllani is now midway through his third season at Inter.
The Albanian joined the Nerazzurri from Empoli in the summer of 2022.
It would be fair to say that Asllani has had his ups and downs in an Inter shirt.
The Albanian has hardly established himself as first-choice in the holding midfield role for the Nerazzurri. He would not have expected to.
There are still doubts about whether Asllani can really grow into his place at Inter.
However, there is certainly no lack of motivation for the 22-year-old.
Joining Inter didn’t just mean a move to a big club at a young age for Asllani. As the midfielder reveals, he was joining the club that he had always held an affinity for.
Inter midfielder Asllani admitted that “Wearing this shirt always has a certain effect on me.”
“I arrived here at twenty years old,” the Albanian continued. “Now I’m 22.”
“I have a Euros behind me, and I certainly feel like I’ve matured. Even if I still have a lot of work to do.”
Asllani went on that “For me, it’s essential to have a united group.”
“My teammates have always supported me,” the 22-year-old said. “On and off the pitch, and helped me grow.”
Asllani admitted that joining Inter was the biggest challenge of his career. “But by keeping on working, I’ve found some satisfaction here.”
“Then, the Euros with Albania was a thrill,” he added.
Then, the 22-year-old said that “My first goal for Inter against Genoa was the best moment of my career.”
“I’d waited for it and waited for it for so long. I wanted it so badly. And then, after a year and a half, it finally arrived.”
Asllani called winning the Serie A title last season “an incredible moment, for me and for the group.”
“Winning the Scudetto with the team that I’ve always supported was incredibly emotional for me.”
Meanwhile, Asllani is taking on the team he joined Inter from this evening, in the form of Empoli.
“When I said goodbye to Empoli to join Inter, on the one hand it was difficult,” he admitted.
“Because I was leaving the team that I’d play for for thirteen years.”
“But on the other hand, I knew that I was heading on a path that I had been chasing for a long time,” he said of leaving the Tuscan club to join Inter.
