Alessio Romagnoli remains intent on joining Al-Sadd after Lazio’s weekend U-turn stating he is not for sale.

According to Il Corriere dello Sport, the 31-year-old has stopped attending training to force the move. He could seek cover via a medical certificate citing psychological distress, after three meetings with Maurizio Sarri failed to change his mind.

Romagnoli accepted a lucrative offer from the Qatari club, coached by Roberto Mancini, having grown frustrated with Claudio Lotito’s unfulfilled pay-rise promises over the past three years.

He appeared on course for the Middle East and even bid farewell to travelling Lazio supporters at Via del Mare on Saturday. On Sunday the club issued an official notice stating the player is not for sale.

Claudio Lotito insists the defender will only be sold if Sarri gives the green light. The Tuscan coach is not willing to take that responsibility, leaving the decision with the hierarchy and the player.
