The Algeria head coach officially steps down from his position!

Algeria head coach resigns from his post! (Official)
The Madjid Bougherra era comes to a bittersweet end. Eliminated in the quarter-finals of the 2025 Arab Cup by the United Arab Emirates on penalties, Algeria’s A’ national team sees its cycle cut short, just days before the coach’s contract was set to expire. A harsh exit, but one that had become inevitable in light of recent results.
Just like in CHAN 2024, the Greens stumbled at the same hurdle, unable to turn their dominance into qualification. Despite taking the lead and finishing the match under pressure, Algeria once again faltered at the decisive moment.
"In a penalty shootout, nothing is ever certain. Qualification went to the Emiratis," summed up Bougherra, clear-eyed about his fate.
At the press conference, the former Greens captain accepted the end of his tenure with responsibility:
"I apologize to Algerian supporters (...) I resign from my post."
Visibly moved, he emphasized his players’ commitment and the squad’s physical limits. It’s a dignified exit for a coach who leaves unbeaten in regular play, but without the result he had hoped for. Now, it’s up to the FAF to open a new chapter.
