As Vladimir Petkovic prepares to unveil his squad for the November training camp, persistent rumors are swirling: Youcef Belaïli may not be among the players called up to the senior national team. According to several reliable sources, the Espérance de Tunis winger could instead be directed to the A' selection, led by Madjid Bougherra, to compete in the upcoming FIFA Arab Cup of Nations 2025 in Qatar. If confirmed, this move would mark a dramatic turning point in the player’s recent career trajectory.

Between strategy and underlying tension

This situation raises eyebrows, especially just weeks before CAN 2025 in Morocco. Belaïli, who made his comeback last March after more than a year away, seemed to have reclaimed his spot in Petkovic’s squad. His experience, creativity, and fiery temperament made him a key asset in an attacking unit already weakened by Amine Gouiri’s absence. The idea of seeing him with the A' team is therefore surprising, especially since the former MCA player remains one of the few left wingers capable of destabilizing a defense with a moment of brilliance.

From the Federation’s side, there’s talk of coordination between the two squads, with officials explaining it as a strategic decision to balance the rosters. But many see it more as a disguised exclusion, the result of lingering tensions and a muddled hierarchy. Among supporters, frustration is mounting. The Oran native, adored for his talent and personality, could find himself playing in a parallel competition while the Fennecs fight for glory in Morocco.

One thing is certain: if this decision is confirmed, it will leave a deep mark on public opinion, as Belaïli remains, for many, one of the most charismatic symbols of recent Algerian football.
