Allan Saint-Maximin has left Club América after revealing his children were subjected to a racist incident in Mexico. The French winger asked to be released, bringing a brief spell in Liga MX to an abrupt close.
He set out his stance in a series of Instagram posts, saying he can face attacks on himself but would never accept anyone targeting his children. TUDN reports that tensions with head coach André Jardine also played a part.
Saint-Maximin said protecting his family is his priority and urged respect for all people, adding that hatred and discrimination must not be tolerated. He did not share specific details of the incident, but his messages drew widespread support.
Club América confirmed his exit shortly after a 2-0 win over Necaxa, when the team walked out with a banner reading 'No to racism'. The forward was not included in the matchday squad.
He later reposted the club’s farewell and thanked fans, writing that he loved América and was grateful for everything.
