Real Madrid are set to usher in a major change at the end of the season as Carlo Ancelotti is now on the verge of bringing an end to his second tenure as manager of the club.

The Italian tactician returned to the Santiago Bernabeu in 2021, taking over after Zinedine Zidane, and has enjoyed an exceptionally successful stint during which he has won two La Liga titles and two UEFA Champions League trophies among other silverware.

However, after a season that has not delivered on expectations, the general consensus is that the 65-year-old’s time at the club is at an end.

Ancelotti to soon start exit process

In fact, Fabrizio Romano now reports that Ancelotti will begin the formal steps for his exit from Real Madrid after this weekend’s El Clasico against Barcelona.

The game, at Montjuic, is a crucial one as a win could keep Real Madrid’s La Liga title hopes alive, providing the manager to sign off on a high. A defeat, however, would end any chances of retaining the title.

Ancelotti’s contract with Los Blancos runs until 2026 and there had been speculations that the wages of the remaining year of his deal had become a point of contention in his departure.

But Romano clarifies that there is no such issue as the manager has never caused any problems on that front.

Given his legendary status at the club, Real Madrid are set to send him off with a grand farewell befitting his status.

Brazil await

On top of that, Romano further adds that Ancelotti’s verbal agreement with the Brazilian national team remains intact despite there being a few hurdles a week or so ago due to the timing of his exit from Real Madrid.

With his departure set to be finalised in the coming days, the Brazil Football Confederation (CBF) are waiting for the legendary manager to sign the contract.

The idea is for the CBF to make an announcement next week, although Ancelotti will be leaving Real Madrid only after the La Liga season is over.

Xabi Alonso, meanwhile, is primed to take over as the Real Madrid boss, having confirmed his departure from Bayer Leverkusen earlier today.
