Paris FC are braced for a third head coach in a year, with Antoine Kombouaré in negotiations to leave and Liam Rosenior emerging as the leading candidate. According to L'Équipe, talks to formalise Kombouaré’s exit began on Monday, and a two-year contract with an optional extra year has been proposed to Rosenior.
The split follows six weeks of tension after Kombouaré, contracted until 2027, sought a one-year extension that disappointed senior figures, including Antoine Arnault. The club says money is not the issue, though there were internal doubts over his ability to manage a full season given persistent knee pain. Even so, the initial intention had been to continue with him.
Kombouaré arrived in February and galvanised a side shaken by a 0-5 loss to Lens on 14 February, posting six wins, three draws and two defeats in 11 matches. The high of beating PSG 2-1 on 17 May did not outlast the subsequent strain.
Plans were meant to be settled soon after the season, but with no clear signal from the coach the hierarchy moved first. Bruno Genesio and Walid Regragui were sounded out before talks advanced with Rosenior. Final details, including staff composition, still need resolving.
Rosenior’s stint at Chelsea ended after less than four months, with seven defeats in his final eight games. His Strasbourg spell counts more in his favour, showcasing youth development, a dynamic style and a high press, though his demanding methods eventually wore down the dressing room before his January departure.
To buy time while an agreement is reached, Paris FC have delayed the restart by eight days to 9 July. That is Rosenior’s birthday, and he could celebrate turning 42 at the Orly training base if appointed by then.
